I began making knives in Phoenix AZ in 1973, when I met a great knife maker, D’alton Holder, who was willing to impart his knowledge and experience. He gave me a scrap piece of 1095 to start experimenting with… and I constructed my first knife. Over time we became good friends, and he was generous enough to share his passion and knife making techniques, helping me learn the art of custom knife making. After 34 years, I’m still at it, and still get a great deal of enjoyment from making high quality knives, 100% entirely by hand, from my own designs.

I construct knives using the stock removal method, hollow ground from quality bar stock, mostly full tang style. I use 440C as my main knife steel, (heat treated by Paul Bos of Post Falls ID, Rc 58-60), and I also use 5/16” thick high carbon tool steel for my tactical knives, with a “KG systems Gun Coat” finish.

I like using 416SS for my bolsters, and pins. For the handles I use various types of materials, such as stabilized woods, horn, bone and Micarta. The sheaths I make are of the pouch type, made from 9-10 oz leather, wet formed, hand stitched and tooled.

I belong to the NWKC in Washington, and the OKCA in Oregon. I sell my knives mainly at knife shows. At this time, I do not take orders, but offer to sell what ever I have in stock. I welcome any inquiries, and can e-mail photos.

I hope you enjoy my custom knives as much as I enjoy making them. I sincerely appreciate your interest in R.Clark Knives.
